Onafternoon of May 24th, Professor Liu Zehua was invited to give alecture on Teaching and the Teaching reform of University English. The lecturewas presided over by Lv Wanying, vice dean of School of Foreign Languages.

Professor Liu，member of Advisory Committee of University ForeignTeaching of Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China,vice dean of HUST, executive member ofUniversity Foreign Language Teaching Committee of Higher Education ResearchAcademy of Hubei Province, and lecturer of National High-quality courses andNational Quality Resources Sharing courses. He hosted the project of Humanitiesand Social Sciences Fund, the Teaching Research Project of Hubei Province andso on. He published several papers on SSCI and CSSCI. He edited severaltextbooks for the tenth and eleventh five-year plan. He has ever been awardedFirst Prize in Teaching Quality of HUST, “Triple Education” and “BaosteelOutstanding Teacher” prize. He was named as the prominent teacher of HUST. Hetook part in the teaching research project and won the Teaching AchievementFirst Prize.

Prof.Liu firstly analyzed the aims and difficulties of University English teachingin the background of the new era, encouraged teachers to teach gladly so thatstudents enjoy learning. He suggested that teacher can change their teachingideas, gradually became the conductor and supervisor, cultivate their interestin learning and improve the effective of classroom teaching. Then, based on hisown teaching experiences, he pointed out that University English teachingshould open up the mind of students, develop their comprehensive abilities suchas finding problems, obtaining help, self-assessment, linguistic performance ,quality control and so on. Professor Liu Zehua also introduced the reform ofEnglish teaching of HUST and other universities. He encouraged teachers to improvetheir own abilities and build “ Golden Class” of high-level, innovation andchallenge.

Professor LiuZehua deeply impressed the teachers with his humorous language, vivid examplesand enthusiasm for English teaching. The atmosphere was lively and the teacherslearned a lot.
